2012 Dogs of Stapleton Calendar | Stapleton Denver
A Dog’s Perspective (Miss January)
Posted on January 6, 2012Well, hello. I’m Miss. January, but my dad and mom call me Olive. Apparently, I looked like an olive when I was born, but I don’t buy it. I prefer to think of myself as a graceful, clever, stylish pooch, and I’m sure that’s why I was selected to be the January winner of the 2012 Dogs of Stapleton Calendar.
The winning photo features me at the top of the Stapleton Sledding Hill. It’s true that I like that hill, but really, I was there for a runway shoot. My parents tell me I’m going to be a superstar … but I promise you, I’m not letting any of this get to my head.
Ohhhh, Woof! Look at the time … What are your questions?
Forest City Stapleton: Yes, thank you. First, we would like to know your favorite place in Stapleton?
Olive: That’s easy! It’s the pocket park by my house off 28th Place. It’s big enough to play fetch and catch up with neighborhood friends.
Forest City Stapleton: It sounds like you know a lot of dogs … Why did your parents decide to move here?
Olive: Another easy one. They moved here six years ago to be close to my dad’s job at the airport. They also like its feel and walkability as well as the diversity of housing options.
Forest City Stapleton: That’s impressive – you seem to know a lot about why they like Stapleton.
Olive: Well, I like to take credit for living here.
Forest City Stapleton: Weren’t you born after they moved in?
Olive: Minor detail.
Forest City Stapleton: Anyway, what’s your typical day like?
Olive: I must admit I live a life of leisure. I sleep in, take my time eating breakfast, go for a few walks, talk with the squirrels in the backyard and catch up with the neighborhood dogs. I like to take it slow.
Forest City Stapleton: That sounds very nice, but how do you stay so fit?
Olive: Well, thank you! (Olive smiles) I actually credit that to all the walks, but I also like to play fetch, and I love to be chased. I would prefer not to chase, but if another dog wants to go after me, I’ll give him a little wink and start running. My mom says I play hard to get, whatever that means.
Forest City Stapleton: Hmmmm … one more question: What’s your favorite spot in the East 29th Avenue Town Center?
Olive: Anywhere that gives me treats – a lot of the shops seem to know I’m coming since they always have something delicious. However, my parents really like The Grape Leaf, and that’s one of my favorites too because of its tasty morsels!
Forest City Stapleton: Good to know. Well, I think we’re out of time.
Olive: Already? Well, it has been fun, darling. Please feel free to stop by again soon, and remember my dog treats next time.
Forest City Stapleton: Of course. Enjoy the rest of your day, Miss January.
